For Sweta Bharech, UF has always felt like a home away from home. She feels that the special relationships students develop with friends and professors sets UF apart from other colleges.

Students recently were honored by The University of Findlay for their dedication to working as a UF student employee during the University's annual Student Employee Recognition Luncheon.

After one campus tour at The University of Findlay, Megan Cecil knew she would be an Oiler. The animal science and western barns and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in her freshman year were large attractions for her.

During his junior year at The University of Findlay, Mark Frilling was accepted into the University of Toledo's College of Medicine - no small feat, considering that he was one of only 20 students granted early entrance.

"Findlay has been the perfect choice for me," said Danielle Taflinger, a student-athlete who will graduate in May with a degree in intervention specialist education. "I have had such an awesome experience here with academics, athletics and extra-curricular activities. I wouldn't change a thing!"

Devon Marti will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science. This fall, she will begin working toward a master's degree in journalism at Columbia College Chicago. Her tuition will be completely paid for through scholarships she received as a result of her experiences and internships that she added to her r?sum? while at Findlay.

Chelsea Hall is well on her way to accomplishing goals. As of May, Hall will be the first in her family to earn a bachelor's degree, and she has a job working in her field as a deputy clerk for the Defiance County Probate and Juvenile Court. Also, she will begin studying at the University of Toledo College of Law with an emphasis in family law this fall.

After a successful career as an actor, Harry Stockton decided to complete a goal he'd started working on 30 years ago - to earn a bachelor's degree. This May, Stockton will graduate from The University of Findlay with a bachelor of arts degree in theatre performance.

Austin Wilson will graduate in May with a degree in finance and international business, and he's already putting his knowledge to good use as a financial analyst at Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. in Findlay, where he will remain as a full-time employee following graduation.

Students from The University of Findlay recently attended the 2014 National Block and Bridle Convention in Springfield, Mo. Eleven students attended, and the group earned a second-place award for website design.

Students received awards at The University of Findlay's Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity on April 2. The annual event provides undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to share their research, creativity and professional learning experiences with the University and the community. More than 200 students received awards.

The University of Findlay Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Carey, will present "String Classics" at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Winebrenner Theological Seminary, TLB Auditorium.

The University of Findlay's theatre program closes its 2013-2014 season with "The Walls," a 2009 drama by noted Chicago playwright Lisa Dillman. The show opened April 9 and runs through April 13 in the Egner Center for the Performing Arts, Powell Grimm Theatre. The University of Findlay is hosting the 2014 Juried Student Art Exhibition through April 24 in the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery, on campus. Awards were announced during a reception on Monday, April 7. Any UF student was eligible to enter artwork for consideration in the following categories: painting, drawing and mixed media, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, design, digital photography, film photography and visual communication.

Drew Bihary, a senior majoring in environmental safety and occupational health management, was awarded Student Employee of the Year at The University of Findlay during an awards luncheon April 7. Bihary also received the State of Ohio Student Employee of the Year honor.

The history, law and gender studies faculty at The University of Findlay announces the 2014 initiates into the Xi-Sigma Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. Phi Alpha Theta is an honor society dedicated to the promotion of the study of history. Founded in 1921, the organization encourages research, publication, and the exchange of ideas among students, teachers, and writers.

The University of Findlay's College of Business installed its inaugural members of the Delta Mu Delta, Nu Beta Chapter, honor society during a ceremony on April 2. Delta Mu Delta is the exclusive business honor society recognized by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) that recognizes and encourages academic excellence.

In March, 10 students and three staff members arrived in Barahona, Dominican Republic, as part of an Oiler Serving Abroad (OSA) service and culture trip. OSA is a student-led initiative, started by four students in the fall of 2012. They had a vision to create opportunities for students from diverse academic disciplines to serve others while gaining cross-cultural experience.

The University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will join to perform "Enchanted Places - Worlds of the Imagination" in its annual Spring Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in the Findlay High School Heminger Auditorium. Both UF students, faculty and staff and community members are welcome at no cost, however, tickets to reserve seating are required. To reserve seating, contact the UF box office at 419-434-4458.

The University Singers will present its annual Family Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Winebrenner Theological Seminary, TLB Auditorium. The group will perform several selections from Broadway shows, including "I Go to Rio" from "The Boy From Oz;" "21 Guns" from "American Idiot;" "Family" from "Dreamgirls;" and "Live, in Living Color" from "Catch Me if You Can."

The University of Findlay Jazz Ensemble presented its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, March 23. The ensemble performed several selections from the Glenn Miller Orchestra Library. Other selections included "Spain" by Chick Corea; "Birdland" by Weather Report and Manhattan Transfer; and "Afro Blue" and "Naima" by John Coltrane.

The 70-voice UF Concert-Chorale and a 50-piece orchestra will perform "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary TLB Auditorium.

The University of Findlay will host a student/faculty charity basketball game at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in Croy Gymnasium to support local organizations Open Arms Domestic Violence Shelter and Teddy's Rescue. One team of students and one team of faculty members will compete for funds to benefit their chosen organization.

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was performed at The University of Findlay Wednesday, Feb. 19 - Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Frank J. Egner Center fort the Performing Arts, John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre.

The University of Findlay hosted a Senior Art Exhibit March 10-20, featuring graphic design and photography work by graphic design majors at the University.
